Stepmothers. Speaking in experience, not saying that I have anything against them, but you have to know where you stand with a child. Stepmothers try so hard to be more to a child then what the child wants them to be. Accepting a step parent in the family could be a hard thing to do, and it makes things even harder when you have a stepmother that stands in the way of the relationship between you and your father. I see it this way, the relationship between a father and his child should not be thrown down the drain because the stepmother does not like the child. You are a grown woman and should not have any type of hate or dislike towards a child. What has this child ever done to you? In most cases nothing. You just don’t want to accept the fact that you are married to a man that has children by another woman than yourself. You should think about those things before you marry a man with children. Apparently the children were there before you or you wouldn’t be called a stepmother. So before you make the choice of marrying a man with children you should first learn to accept all the packages he might come with. Is it that serious to have a child’s relationship ruined with their father all because you want the spotlight?
I understand where you coming from when you describe a stepmother. I have had two. lol Both were cool and nice, but I can not stand my stepdaddy. He come in me and my sister life like he running things, I'm like hold up dude! who are you ? really ? He ruined me and my mother's relationship because he always has something to say. You know how that goes. But I totally agree with you by really thinking about accepting all the bagage that comes with someone before marrying.
ReplyDeleteI have a stepdaddy. When he first came into my life I culd not stand him. We have gotten into sooooooooooooo many arguments about the smallest things. Ihave grown to like my stepdad though. Even though he is married to my mom, he still provides and tries to help me even though I have said some really hurtful things! Maybe some things need to be put out in the open for yall's relationship can be better.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very powerful post. The relationship between a child and a parent is a very strong one. I understand having a stepparent. At first, it can be a very unpleasant experience, especially if you have a close bond with your biological parents. It's funny because parents are supposed to be the ones who look after their children, and when parents remarry, role reversal occurs. The child can sometimes end up trying to act as the protector of the parent. Its a hard situation to be in. As for the ruining relationships thing, I thing that if you and a parent have a strong enough relationship, nothing should be able to come between them. Great blog post.
